About

Solbound is an reading app designed to track your reading and books easily. Its perfect for casual readers who just want to find their next read, as well as for avid readers who want to track their daily reading time.

I wanted to create this project because as a reader, I’ve found that while there are many reading tracking apps, many are missing key features that I felt should have been obvious, features that should already be there, so I decided to create my ideal app. Something that makes tracking reading and finding new books easy, that lets you review books more in depth, that anyone can use.

Brand Identity

The first thing I did when starting this project was come up with the brand Identity. Solbound is a sort of play on words; Sol referencing sun (but also sort of a word play on soul), and bound referencing how books are bound. I wanted this app to feel cozy and welcoming, because that’s what reading a book feels like. I created the logo based off of the name Solbound, its supposed to be a sun peaking out from behind a book, while the rays also resemble the pages of the book. I also spent a long time playing with the color palette, as I wanted something summery and fun feeling, but nothing too distracting or complex.

The app is split into 5 main pages which are listed at the bottom; home, search, explore, shelves, and profile. Below is a breakdown of the pages individually and their key features. As well as some general features that can be found across the app.

This is the Initial landing page for the app. It shows your current reads at the top, and below shows any recent activity from you, friends, or people you follow. Theres also a quick search bar at the top.

This page is for searching for books, authors, or users. You can look at trending books and new releases, which are small lists but can be viewed in full, featured lists which are curated, or by genre.

The explore page is the most versitile page, where you can find more featured lists, books based on recent reads, and recent interviews and articles. On articles, you can save them to read later, share, or rate them.

In the shelves page, you can view your current reads, and any other lists you have created. You can favorite shelves and even create shared shelves. Books can also be on several shelves. In the individual shelves you can view how many books on the shelf you’ve read so far, and if its a shared shelf you can see what books from the shelf people (as well as which ones you are currently reading). Shelf titles, descriptions, and covers can also be customized.

The profile page is likely the most detailed page. It has 4 subsections; stats, shelves, reviews, and posts. On all of you can see the Username and name, followers, following, and total amount of read books, as well as profile picture and banner. Theres also a search bar to search for books, posts, or shelves. The stats page shows your current reads, recently read, and you can view your reading statistics of the year, month, week, or by genre. The shelves section just shows your shelves form the shelves page. The reviews section shows any of your recent reviews. Finally, the posts section shows any recent posts you made. For posts, you can post photos, or quotes from any book you’d like. You can also post just text, or even polls. People can also comment and like your posts.
